Ian Macfarlane (MA, Oxon)
Ian heads up Ubuntu and is also with his family a Founder-Director of the Cape Town Medi-Spa.
He likes to spends his Sundays in the
garden with his partner Dawn and his family, 'Rumi poetry nearby, my
feet dug into Africa’s healing soil and a big smile of gratitude on my
face.' He understands the importance of discovering and treasuring
moments of stillness, married with the joys of online multimedia
gaming!
After studying Politics, Philosophy & Economics (PPE) at Oxford
University in 1993, Ian ‘tripped and fell into a Float tank,’ an
experience which led him into his first job, three years of
co-managing the South London Natural Health Centre. During this time he
began his ongoing training as a Bodywork and Biofeedback
Therapist, incorporating cutting edge EEG Neuro and Heart Rate
Variability technologies with various energy and bodywork systems to
restore body, emotions and mind. No surprise then that he finally landed the SA license for Heartmath in 2011.
After 12 years of working with the Reiki System of Natural Healing with
teacher Krishni Borang, he qualified as a Reiki Master under her and her teacher Wanja Twan
in 2006 (Wanja is one of a handful of surviving direct Master students
of Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the West during the 1930’s). He conducts small Reiki Training Classes for those wishing to share this gift of healing.
He
is also trained in Emotional Freedom Technique, Pranic Healing, Remedial Deep Tissue (Sports) Massage, several
branches of yoga and enjoys facilitating as an Ubuntu Wellness Coach.
Since establishing the Cape Town Medi-Spa, South Africa’s first
integrated medical and wellness facility, together with his family in
2003, he has been drawn by the potential of a community-driven
democracy of wellness in South Africa and worldwide. As director of Ubuntu Water Foundation, he is kept busy striking a balance between treatment and social upliftment work.
A true nature lover, and well-trained by his nutritionist wife Dawn, Ian’s favourite foods are ‘live, fresh and organic products.’
